Office Kitchen

Traditionally the home of microwaveable meals, abandoned container lids, and countless coffee mugs, is it possible to make the office kitchen into something more? Employees spend eight or more hours at work each day, so it is important to create a space where they can take a break, eat a meal, and feel comfortable for a while. So how can you go about properly stocking the office kitchen and making it welcoming to employees? Read on to find out!

Utilizing Utensils

Nothing is worse than a communal sink full of everyone’s dirty dishes that they are all going to “get to later.” What’s more, keeping track of whose spoon is whose can be more trouble than it’s worth! Rather than amassing a drawer full of random, mismatched cutlery, consider providing your employees with quality disposable cutlery options instead. This way, used utensils do not pile up in the sink, no one loses track of their own items, and from knife and fork to spork, every necessary tool will be available.

Crazy for Coffee

The sun may be rising and shining, but the same cannot necessarily be said for your employees. For those who do not consider themselves “morning person” material, and for those who need a quick pick-me-up in the afternoon, be sure to have a coffee maker available. You can also provide coffee shop style to-go cups for convenience, or opt for a more traditional look with plastic mugs instead.

Spot the Spills

For the inevitable overturned beverage or spaghetti sauce that didn’t quite make the plate, make sure that you have the proper cleaning supplies on hand. A steady supply of paper towels stored in an easy-to-reach place will ensure that everyone cleans up after themselves immediately, rather than allowing the kitchen to become the messiest space in the office!

Leaving the Leftovers

After every office party, you can bet that there will be leftovers: cake from a birthday celebration, fruit salad from the company picnic, or a cheese and cracker platter from a conference luncheon. No matter what the event was, make sure that the leftover food is stored in proper containers so that it does not go to waste and employees who forgot their lunch (or are just craving an extra slice of cake!) can access it.
