How to Plan a Kid's Birthday Party on a Budget

Believe it or not, you don’t have to break the bank in order to throw a fun and memorable child’s birthday party!

Today’s topic is how to plan a kid’s birthday party on a budget.

Here are 3 tips for throwing the ultimate kid’s birthday party without spending a fortune.

[1] Consult with the birthday boy or girl

It’s easy to dream up an over-the-top party of what we imagine the perfect party entails, but more often than not, the birthday boy or girl’s dream party is fairly simple. Kids love getting to play with their friends, open presents, and eat cake and ice cream, but you won’t know what they really want unless you ask. It’s that simple! (And it’s ok if you’re not able to meet all of their party re   quests, just make sure you discuss what elements are most important and what ones they’re ok leaving out.)

[2] Do-it-yourself when possible

For example, save money by making the birthday cake yourself rather than buying a professionally-made cake. You can easily find cake inspiration for any theme with an online search (especially on Pinterest).

[3] Buy supplies you can reuse or repurpose

One of the easiest ways to do this is by color coordinating utilizing solid colors, and minimizing the amount of supplies featuring licensed characters. Let’s say you’re having a Spiderman-themed party. Rather than spending more on Spiderman paper plates, cups, and napkins, you could get red plastic plates, black paper cups (which you write each child’s name on using a silver Sharpie permanent marker, and maybe add some spider web designs), and blue paper napkins. Just think of all the opportunities to use leftover supplies on other special occasions and holidays!

These 3 tips will help you plan a child’s birthday party—or any type of party for that matter—on a budget!
